The Last Centurion(s) ?
So I am reading a book by a John Ringo, The Last Centurion. I work offshore and read almost anything I can get my hands on. I did run across two passages from the book I wanted to share. I think that in our current politicoecomic state we lost something. History is filledwith people who have something only to depend on one individual or small group of individuals to restore that which was lost.
the following is an excerpt from the book . I researched the facts and they re solid.
“Centurions were the guardians of Rome. At the height of the Roman Republic there were over five thousand qualified Roman Centurions in the Legions. To be a centurion required that, in mostly illiterate society, one be able to read and write clearly, to be able to convey and create orders, to be capable of performing every skill of a Roman soldier BUT teach teach every skill of a Roman soldier. Becoming a Centurion required intense physical ability,courage beyond the norm, years of sacrifice and a total devotion to the philosophy which was Rome. When Rome fell to the barbarian invaders, there were fewer than five hundred qualified Centurions. Not because Rome had fewer people but because it had fewer people willing to make the sacrifices. And the last Centurions left the shields in the heather and took a barbarian wife.”
Reread that again if you like. Did you notice the punchline? Fewer people willing to make the sacrifice. How many of us in the course of our day, Discussing with others the problems we face as a nation hear the endless reasons why they cant attend a tea party. Or 9/12 meeting, or GOOOH meeting. simple fewer willing ot make the sacrifices required for our nation to not only prosper but maybe even survive ……….. Let that sink in real good. Of course I assume many of my fellow tea partiers are and have made sacrifices. Money , time, and doing something outside the norm is a sacrifice. Really How many of you a year a would have ever dreamed you would be hosting a tea party? A meeting? Emailing our elected bodies? Only a few probably. But look at us now. The Feds have taken notice and our elected officials have too. Well done. BUT,,, we aren’t finished yet. The progressives and those who think along those lines are quick to call us traitors, Nazis, brown shirts, UN-American, funny the last ‘We Surround Them’ meeting I went to I saw none of those. Not a brown shirt one. Not a racist to be found. I digress let me get to last thing I wanted to quote from this book. It is all fiction by the way.
“ If we sunder ourselves internally,if we accept the false divisions, then we bring with those false divisions all their ills, all their blood of centuries. Where then can we find trust? If we cannot see the difference between the evil that stands here before us with blood soaked hands and what we are told is is he evil we do in bringing peace and plenty to foreign shores where then is there trust? If we cannot remember who we are, if we cannot comprehend what it means to be this light shining on the hill, this country of wonder and riches , this AMERICA, then we shall surely slip into the long dark night that our enemies of our freedoms so richly desire.
We are told, always,that there is no black or white. That there is only shades of gray. This is a picture that is held up to us. But it is only a picture and it is false. Each day we make countless choices, and each of these choices are black and white. If we choose, over and over again, as we have for so long, to choose the black choices because they are easier, to choose ‘me’ over ‘us’ . to choose division over and strife over assimilation, then we slip slowly into that black night. I Am Your Centurion. This America Shall Not Fall! ”
Of course it is a fictional work. But the words struck a chord in me and I thought this may help inspire us to do more. teach and lead others , so that we may save this country from slipping into the pages of history without a sound. I am a veteran. Damned proud of it too! I served and had the honor and privilege of serving with the finest people the U.S. produces. I am the son of a Green Beret. One of my younger brothers followed in dads’ footsteps. So forgive me if I exude a cast iron pride in our military. I firmly believe,and hold fast to, this United States of America is worth every effort I can give her. Every effort I can make to preserve her. If i have any allegiance higher it is to GOD. Truthfully they would be pretty much on the same level. I promise you this….. I will do all I can to protect liberty, and defend earnestly the Constitution of the United States. Even if it means the ultimate. I for one would gladly lay that at he altar of freedom. I hope and pray that we can restore America to her founding principals. The more that the House and Senate waste time on frivolous issues the more determined I become.
When I see the triumvirate of evil, Libya,Iran,Venezuela take the world stage and tell us to stick it while our “leader” does nothing is insulting to every American. It is shameful that even as our troops serve and die abroad, our same ”leader” ( I hate even referring to him that way. He doesn’t deserve that much.) makes apologies for being an American.
This whole tea party , 9/12, grassroots thing is working folks. But We are NOT DONE. WE HAVENT EVEN BEGUN TO GET TO WORK. We more than 75,000 (Approx) to march in D.C. we need millions. Reach out to you neighbors and reintroduce a high trust society to your neighborhood. GET THEM INVLOVED TOO!
OK I am done ,,,,,, for now. I need sleep and it has already been an 18 hour day. Goodnight err morning or whatever.
